cinch

like the sun gives up shining
when i shut the blinds

much as hurt just steams away
when i quit crying

same way you're no longer there
when i close my eyes

just as rain no longer pours
when i reach my lair

i flip a coin
i pull a plug
i skip a scene
i pick a mug

i hit a switch
and let go of us

This poem has a ironic air that I truly appreciate. Even shut blinds let in a little light, hurt remain even after the tears dry, and closed eyes can't stop memories.

The only lines I didn't understand as well were

"just as rain no longer pours
when i reach my lair."

Excellent poem Carolina.

Precious is unchanged by time,
One moment or a thousand years,
Best left behind while wishing more
And weeping still sheds precious tears.

Thank you borboleta

Nathan.. thank you! :)
The irony lies in my plain unability to actually perform any of those actions. The rain will go on outside, even if I hide... as the sun will remain as bright, in spite of my shut blinds. If you stand in front of me, my covered eyes won't make you gone... all very literal, really. :) Ocurred to me as I was playing Peek-a-Boo with my daughter... she really thinks I vanish and reappear. EVERY time. :)

I love this poem. It captures, in a sense, how every raindrop is still streaming towards earth, how every packet of sunlight is still shining even in memory and how every tear, is still falling. . . even those for which we've tried to switch off the hurt.
